Brake ?'s
Why is there no spring clip to hold the inside pad to the caliper?
How is the pad to move off the rotor if there is nothing to pull it?
Should there be a slight drag on the rotor (new) from the brake pads (new)?
Lastly, does anyone make an aftermaket caliper for this truck(not a new OEM)?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
2, The piston retracts slightly by the rolling action of the piston seal and thus releives the pressure on the pad.
3, Yes, it is normal to have a slight drag, as long as there is no heat generated, it should be OK.
4, I dont know about an aftermarket caliper but rebuilt calipers are available in aftermarket and are much less costly than new.
I just did the front brakes on my 78 last week. Like FSC said, a little drag is normal. You should still be able to turn the wheel with one hand though.
One of mine was really tight and VERY hard to get on to the rotor. I forced it on and thought driving it around the block would loosen it up a little. Bad idea. When I got back, the rotor was almost red hot and smoking like crazy.
Turns out my caliper was shot so I went to autozone and got a reman for $13.00 ($23 minus a $10 core charge). Can't beat that for price.
As a comparison, I bought a wheel cylinder for the drum brakes on my ATV. It looks exactly like the ones on most cars and trucks, only it cost me $116.00!!! I could get all new calipers, cylinders, pads and shoes fot my truck for that price.

Will dual piston calipers from an F250 or 350 work on my HP D44?
