Engine code "G"?

Engine code "G"?
When researching my recently purchased 1982 F150 2WD, I did not find a reference for the engine code of "G" (contained in my trucks VIN). I was expecting a "W" for the Windsor based on the prior owners comments. Does anyone have data to help decipher the "G"?

Engine code "G"?
I have several Ford repair manuals that break down the VIN . Even some of the Chilton manuals I have break down the VIN . I thought some where on FTE the VIN info was stored ? Post the yr & VIN of your vehicle & Im sure one of us can give you all the major item info .
