My '05 nightmare....

Well here goes, i have a 05 crew cab short box 6.0 it has 4100 miles on it. Recently i had it into my dealer for the 3500 mile check up and oil change. I got my truck back and thought everything was fine. The truck sat for a few days before i used it again. I started the truck pulled out of the drive and the truck started to shut down. But then it would be fine, it did it one more time. Shut down like it hit a fuel shut off... All the gauges where fine, opened the hood everythign seemed in order. Started it up again and ran it and it ran fine. I then drove from cleveland to athens ohio, about 240 miles, drove around down in athens for about a week and then on my way back home i made it about 40 miles when i noticed a violent shaking on the highway. It was shaking so bad my XM radio shook right out of the holder. I pulled off the highway and shut the truck down. Gauges where all fine. I popped the hood nothing looked unplugged. Checked the oil, and there was no markings on the dipstick. So i waited 15 minutes for the oil to maybe drain back into the pan. As i did that i looked for any noticible leaks. Did not see anything noticible. Checked the oil again, still no oil. The thing was bone dry.

So i called my dealer they immeadiatly blammed me and asked me what i did to my truck after they gave it back to me. I was a little bit shocked by that and how the immeadiatly blammed me. Hey at least i pulled off the road before something bad happened. All they told me to do was call roadside assistance and offered no other help besides that. I asked what do i do to get home from the middle of nowhere, and they said they absolutley would not authorize a rental car. So i called roadside assistance they came and picked me up. The ford dealership who i have never dealed with was nice enough to give me one of their rentals. They said they would deal with the other dealership and Ford Corp themselves.

So innitialy off the record the diesel tech at this ford dealership said that my dealership did not fill the truck with enough oil. when they drained the truck there was only 5 quarts, enough to fill a gasoline engine, not a diesel. Clearly a mistake on the origianal tech. The original tech, my dealership, still denies this. After further insepction of the truck to see the damage the tech finds a number 7 injector bad a number 4 injector bad and a high presure pump bad.

My dealership is now saying that the injectors whent bad causing the oil to leak into the engine and burn off, that is why there is no trace of the 10 quarts of oil anywhere.

I have the truck back and it seems to be running alot better than it has all winter. Which is suprising, because i think this may have been a problem that has been going on longer than i thought. I dont know, shouldnt the injector fault codes came up when they did the initial oil change if this had been going on longer. Cause that is what the dealership is saying.

I have a call in with ford corprate customer service who is revewing the case, and is giong to let me know what they are doing. There has to be damage to the engine due to only having 5 quarts of oil in it.

Now it is the waiting game. Im just pissed the way my dealership treated me, and i also realy think this all came from an error from their tech. If that is the case i deserve some sort of compensation.

Any comments suggestions or thoughts would be awesome.

Kevin

I feel for you. I believe if you are relying on ford customer disservice for anything, well, your out of luck. They will black ball you if you raise any kind of fuss, and will refuse to respond to any complaints. Just an FYI. It has happened/happening to me right now, also T_j82. Just the luck of it. Maybe, just maybe, your area rep may be a "better" customer service person.

I think the dealer who only put in 5 quarts is more responsible to compensate you than FMC.

First thing, they probably don't use a tech for oil changes. Some "lot boy", nothing wrong with that, but they usually are some new highschool kid that has his first job, and he is in charge of cleaning the shop, and changing the oil. He probably dosn't know what the truck is supposed to have in it, and the oil is drained into a large resivior so measerment is next to impossible. Get the dealership to fess up, they owe you.

I had a similar experience with my truck at 3100 miles for its first dealer service... and probably its last maintenece there. They over filled my truck by 2 qts. It had 16 qts in it when I told them this and the service buletin that says not to fill past 14 qts they had no answer for me other than to change the oil at no cost. I have had other problems with the dealer with my 2 previous trucks. They dont use a trained diesel tech t change oil its just some quick lube person that doesnt know how much oil the thing takes. I didnt want them to do anything with the oil and I took it to work and adjusted the level myself. Called the GM and they gave me the parts to change the oil on it myself next time. I have never had any problems with the warranty work because it goes to the same tech all the time. I met him and have a good relationship with him and he is the only one that works on the truck. I usually change the oil myself but figured it would be nice to take it to the dealer once and a while. Not anymore.. atleast for basic maintence.

I have learned the hard way that you need to find a good dealer. even if it means driving alittle further to take your truck in it just isnt worth it to deal with an incompentent dealership.

The most common problem is overfilling due to ignorance, sorry to hear that incredible ignorance has caused you such grief. Good luck and demand resolution, if it was run on 1/3 of the proper amount of oil, there will most likely be bearing issues and probably pump and valvetrain problems. Have it checked throroughly and don't rest until you are satisfied. At least I would expect a 75,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty at no cost and that any engine warranty work under the 100,000 mile warranty will be performed absolutely free, without the 100 dollar deductible. I have to take mine back to the dealer to change the oil again, for free, due to overfilling and now surging- immediately after my last 1/2 price oil change of course and found out that they sent it to the Quick Lube lane after I specifically requested a 6.0L certified tech be the only person who touched my engine. A little discussion with the Service Manager and I certainly hope I won't have that problem again (especially since they won't see the truck unless it's warranty work, I'll do the oil on my own now). Good luck and take care. Mat
