Carb options?

I am trying to determine which carb to put on my 352 engine.
I am also wanting opinions on whether to go with a rebuilt or new carb.
I am planning to do a mild build on this engine in the future, but for now I want to stay with a 2 barrel.
What is the minimum CFM I should consider?
New or rebuilt?
Factory or aftermarket?
Brand?

Please give me opinions or experiences with rebuilts or carbs in general.
Thanks.
Jim

I have such an engine, running headers, Edelbrock 1406, was highly disappointed. Started playing with jets in the carb, picked up a couple mpgs, switched in a Holley 600 cfm for a 390GT that had been tweeked, (man what a kick ice carb) picked more mpg. Yesterday we pulled that one and put a Holley 390 cfm 4 barrel carb on, it doesn't punch like the GT did, but still performs well. Hoping to get the mpg past 15.

The engine will not need anyomore then 570cfm, but a Holley 600 works well, I run one on my 66 352FE, as far as new or rebuilt, doseant matter really, if it was rebuilt right it will be the same as new, I bought my Holley from a carb builder and its 20 years old and is rebuilt, runs great. If you want the most power, run a Holley, they are easy to tune and upgrade as well.

You stated you wanted to stay with the 2 barrel. I believe the 500 cfm holley is the bigest you can get. Personallly I would change to a 4 barrel with vacume secondarys. I have had both and if driven normally the 4 barrel will get you more milage and power. It is better to take the engine apart once than to not be happy with it and have to take it apart a second time to change the manifold out and switch.
