Red face Ford Idle Adjuster

I Just Put In Ford's Idle Adjustment Plate, And It Is Not Doing Much.i Bought This Because I Read A Post "found The Holy Grail" And The Guys Had So Much Luck With It.i Got It Because I Have A Lot Of Modifications On My Motor ,and Had Some Surge Problems, Even After A Custom Chip. The Plate Is Letting More Air Through Because I Can Really Hear The Air Filter. The Piece Has Smoothed The Idle A Bit. My Problem Is That The Adjustment Screws When I Turn Them, Don't Adjust The Idle At All. I Followed The Dir. I Back The T.b Screw Out, Then Back In So It Would Just Touch., But The Truck Wouldn't Start.so I Opened Until It Would Just Idle, Then I Tried The Screws On The Plate And Nothing.zilch .in Or Out Not A Single Rpm. So Know I Have The T.b Back Where I Started. Any Ideas? I Have A 95 5.0l. Thanks

What sort of modifications to the motor are you talking about? Are they actual mechanical mods such as a cam or other things and more than just a "custom" chip? Because some of those chips are more trouble than they are worth. Hopefully you are not using one of those $25 Ebay chips. If so, I'll wager that the cheap chip is the problem.

BTW - nothing personal, but why do you capitalize the first letter of every word when you type? Doesn't that take a long time? It's not bothering me or anything, I am just wondering.

I had the caps lock on. Sorry. I have done mech. mods ,if you check my profile you will see them listed. It would take too long to type them, but yes,a cam and MAF are among them.

well fill out your sig so we can view your mods easier.

ive never heard of this plate your talking about. have you checked for codes before you started throwing stuff at it. also what chip did you install (brand) . also you shouldnt mess with the idle screw anyways. its preset for a reason. if its ideling funny then there are other things wrong causing the ecu to not compensate properly

the idle adjustment plate was a last resort from looking at ALL THE COMPONENTS for the EFI before putting on the idle adjustment plate. I think Jbronco might be hitting the spot about what kind of mods you are talking about. obvisously, you have an idle problem. did your truck have this idle problem before all the mods? trace back which mod might have started the idle problem.
Like I said on the "holy grail" post, make sure all other EFI components have been checked and replaced before going to this option. My truck is still stock rebuilt 302. I have all new parts (tps,iac,act,egr,o2sensor,ect..etc) Just for reference...One of my idle adjustment screw on the plate is practically all the way in. The other is wide open.

It's a Ford part that can be put in the TB to help vehicles that are having idle problems. It's just a plate with two threaded needle valves - the same thing as the two idle air adjustment screws on a carburetor. It was not made to help tune the idle on heavily modded vehicles but there is no reason why it can't be used that way. But it seems that it is not helping rudder9 and I suspect that all of his mods created more of an issue with the idle than the plate is capable of remedying

The plate I'm referring to was created for t.b that have a lot of crud built up in them.I bought this because both the tech@ ford and my mechanic (also McGloughlin motorsports) who did the chip, said, and have seen good results from this piece.Sometimes ,even with a custom chip, the computer doesn't adjust to having a cam thrown in the mix. When this plate came out it was adopted by the Mustang crowd because it helped with some idle issues. I didn't even know about it until I read about it on this site. (found the holy grail posted a couple months back). My truck did not have an idle issue before the mods. I also replced every damn vaccum line and possible culprit while doing this project because most of the lines were original and feeling a little old. It has been to the shop for tuning and checking for problems.I also brought it back to the computer guy where we have done 2 more re-burns when I added the heads and super charger. I just put this post up because I thought some one that used the plate may have had the same problem.MY truck isn't that bad, I guess I'm just looking for perfection. Some times that's the price you pay for fooling around. thanks

surge ---idle

Rudder, dont feel like the Lone bandit, i also have the Famous surgeing.Tried alot-even the Ford PLATE. Looked extensively at other posts, changed alot of emission parts(other parts also) -and mine has a 56 mm throttle body on it no crud at all.Mods done to mine include 56mm tb, eldelbrock upper lower, super chip, msd6a box, msd billet distributor, blaster coil , k-n fipk, new accel plug wires ,Ford parts include-egr -valve, pvc -valve, evp -valve, and map sensor, fuel pressure regulator ,purge valve, idle air control valve, tps sensor. fuel filter. and more.Seems this surging is worst when cold 40 degrees or lower. I also bypassed the coolant flow to the ttb.Today 80 degrees it surged 600-800 . Winter below 32 it acts like it wants to shut off(it actually did once-past winter) some times lower to higher surges never above 900 after the intial warm up.I always get the initial warm up for a min or two some times a little longer. after it warms up it seems fine smaller surges .Strange i know . but i can remember surging w/o any mods like at a stop light years ago came and went.Out of all my searches i saw where the fuel pump sock can be the culprit(fuel tank)----TR

Well it looks like I'll have to live with it the way it is. You right though about the way the problem is worse when it is colder. Sometimes on a cold morning she won't idle right until she gets warm.some time she even wants to stall. Been on the scanner , no codes ever came up so I replaced all the sensors anyway since most were original. I still don't remember any significant surging before mods, but maybe I wasn't paying close attention. Thanks for your input .Now I'm going to put on the inline fuel pump. Lots of fun.

cold mornings? eh...it may be your MAP sensor. I went to the junkyard found two good condition MAP sensor and checked to see any changes on the idle. there was no change in mine. so i figured it was still good.

I have had any code come up for a map sensor.Could it still be faulty w/o one, like maybe reads fine sometimes and not others. Or does the map sensor just go bad.
