I have never seen a 80-86 LB stepside, only seen them on the 60-70's model trucks.

Ford used to make a long-wheelbase flareside, but it was discontinued after 1979.

Yep pre 80's only, they were pretty ugly in my eye though.

IIRC, the post 80 fenders will bolt up to the bed, IF you can find one. I have seen only 3. One was near Farmer City, IL, and the other 2 were in the Tradin' Post. One in IN, the other TX.

I bought a 1979 Red F-150 LWB Flareside "briefly" in 1981 at a dealer in Northern Virginia. I say briefly, because I had no intention of EVER buying a used truck from any dealer. It was part of my plan to get what I really wanted and have the dealer help me pay for it. A friend of mine had a trashed 1975 Ford Granada I gave him $500 for to set up the sting once I saw the mark at the dealer. Seems the 1979 Red Flareside had all the emissions removed - a no no in Virginia - and the dealer was stupid enough the issue a safety and emissions pass certification for the truck... Well, I drove in with the ragged Granada, let the salesman go high on the truck price and high on the Granada - $3,000. on the Granada to be exact - and we had a deal. I knew the Granada would be wholesaled out immediately to a junkyard or whatever, so three weeks later I returned to the dealer "heartbroken" because my truck was "illegal" and I had a Virginia state trooper with me at the time to confirm the seriousness of the matter. Sure, the dealer was willing to add all the emission devices, including catalytic converter, but that was not what I BARGAINED for.

Dealer had to buy back the Flareside, but since the Granada was long gone, I essentially picked up a quick $2,500 to apply to the F-350 I bought shortly thereafter from a private party for $7,500 including a 10,000 pound flatbed trailer I later sold for $1,500 after I moved to Utah.

The general manager of the Lincoln Mercury dealership called me into his office after the truck was returned and I got my check for the full amount I payed them and we both chuckled, because according to him at least, I was the first person in history to truly get a great "deal" from a dealership.
