Ford Gurus,
Wanted to get some advice on purchasing a 94 F150 2wd ext cab short cab with 6 cylinder. Concerned with towing capacity with 6 cylinder engine. I will typically pull boat maybe 15 times per year and with gear and all maybe 2500 lbs. The rest of the time it's usually 1-2 people in the vehicle. Am willing to trade off some better gas mileage for loss of "get up go" when towing, BUT I do not want to damage transmission over the years. Am I buying a truck that has too small an engine??? thanks!!!
Truck has 86K miles and not sure aout the transmission. I talked to the wife on the phone so I got limited info. What would be the optimal transmission?
Can't speak with much authority on transmissions - I didn't care for Mazda light duty 5 spd with 300; maybe E4OD or Mazda ZF if you an get it; all transmissons will serve fairly well but any extra loads will shorten the useful life of the drivetrain, especially the lighter duty units AODE, M5OD. AODE is code U on door jamb sticker under transmission, G is C6, E is E4OD, C is 5 spd ZF close ratio, M is M5OD Mazda and W is M5OD HD Mazda - all info from 95 manual. Hope this helps. All other comments welcomed.
