I just drove a friends 97' F-250 cc/sb 4x4 psd automatic that I am thinking of buying from him. A question I have for you guys is howmany rpm's are ya'll running at 70 mph. This one is running almost 2500 rpm's @ 70 mph. I just think that is a little high but I am used to my 04 psd with the torque shift. It has 285/75/16 tires but I am not sure about the rear end ratio.
motown fire, my 2001 f-350 4x4 cc turns 70 mph at 2000 rpms rear end is 373, you got to have at least 410 in there at those kind of rpms. just my thoughts. 01psd
Well after driving it I got to thinking about it (usually kinda dangerous to think) and it seems like the trans is slipping when it shifts. It also has a hard time getting up to 70-75 mph. So I think he has got some transmision issues.
mine is 2500 at 70 and 2000 at 60 i have a 5 speed and 4.10 rear end and 33" inch tires. tell him to take a couple thou off the price for a new tranny.
My 95 with auto tranny runs 70@2300 and I know for a fact it has 4.10 and 33" tires. It does sound to me that your a little high on RPM's if his tach is right.
My 97 F250 turns 2k at 70. Auto tranny, 4.10s and 35" tires. Is it actually slipping or just takes a while to shift. From what I have read/heard the NAW6 pcm code isn't the best code for shifting (sluggish shifts). Could be as simple as needing a reflash/tuner/chip to firm up the shifts. Hows the rest of the truck?
Why is there so much difference in the same gears, same tranny, but way different rpms?

i need to recalibrate my speedo i think. but it is not to far off right now. my dads w/ same everything except 1" taller tires is very i mean very close to mine and has not been recalibrated either.
You guys wondering if the speed O is close or not, look for one of the portable signs the highway dept. and city services puts out that has the speed you are going when you drive by them. Those things are a radar gun and are very close to dead on.
I know we have them all over the place in Texas anyway and I have waited till traffic was not so bad like way early in the mornings and ran vehicles by thewm so I could check the speed O at different speeds to see how close they are at which speeds.
You might be shocked to see what Ford lets come out of the plant for a speed O reading. I know my truck when new was way off, bad. Now with the new 295 tires I just put on her, she is dead on from 40- 80 MPH. At 20-30 it is about 1-2 slow.
