99 expy check engine light
Hey guys... long time no talk... My 99 expy, 4.6l, 4x4 with 66,500 miles has been running like a champ lately... The other day, the Check engine light came on... It actually seemed to run better, more power and the tires even chirped in a 1-2 shift... I was sitting in the drive way playing when I realized I couldn't get it to rev over 4500 rpm... No mater what I did, it would run up to 4500 and then start missing and surging over and over... Is it time for another trip to dealer-ville??? Thanx... Johnny in Chicago burbs...

I believe, as a safety measure, you can't rev any engine over 4 or 4.5 grand while in Park. The rev limiter kicks in. That's been in effect for years and not just Ford products. Take it for a ride and see if the same thing happens while under load in Drive. Then take it to Advance Auto, PEP Boys or other parts store and get the check engine code read, preferably for free. There is also a mention of what to do in the 99 manual - sometimes the gas cap is loose or not on at all.
