Clutch???
Hey, this is my first posting at the Forum. I have a '99 SD, 7.3, straight gear. I bought the truck new. It has 80,000 miles and I had to put a clutch in it,WOW! I do not haul that much with the truck, the first thing I was the slave cyc. went out and the dealer said I need a new clutch. Is it normal to only get 80,000 miles. In my youth we were a lot harder on clucthes and they lasted! Also did I mention I had to take out a loan to fix it. The Chairman of the War Dept. on the home front was not happy!

sounds like a short life to me. my brother just hit about 275k on the stock clutch in his 97psd 5speed, and had to replace it because the multipiece flywheel exploded, clutch still had life left, but we upgraded it to a solid flywheel. another buddy with a 99 psd like yours has at least 80k and no problems thus far.
i would make sure they hang on to your old clutch and prove it was worn out.

my brothers 2000 7.3L 6 speed has about 90,000 on it and he just had some problems with the clutch. his clutch release fork broke, he took it to a shop and they said that it needed a new clutch so we pulled it home and ripped the tranny out ourselves and found out it was only the clutch fork which is a 30 dollar part. 80,000 sounds too early to have the clutch go out unless it the pedal wasnt adjusted properly and it has been slipping.
