E85 vs. Gasoline

Is there a mechanical difference in engine make-up between E85 and regular gasoline engines? Or is it a computer chip thing. What's the difference between to two? I'm just curious to know if there is a simple (or even a possible) way to convert to E85.
I've got a 1998 Ranger 3.0L V-6.
