I've been debating weather or not to take my spare off, but I KNOW the one time I'll need it I'll be in a rush to do somthing important, and even though I have AAA, they aren't exactly fast.
No, the're not.
When I had the flat, my insurance co sent a tow truck, took about 20 minutes in the middle of the night.
I think I posted this on another thread.... Bronco's and Pickups are almost the same in the back... so get yourself a bronco spare tire carrier - it mounts to the side of the bed with these wrap-around flanges, then locks to this large clasp thing you have to mount on your tailgate. I have a full setup justfor this purpose, just haven't gotten around to fangling it onto my truck.

I just got done searching jcwhitney.com for an standard vertical in-bed spare mount, and they didn't even have one listed there. So far, the only thing I've found listed online was this one here. It doesn't look terribly durable, but it looks like it'll do the job anyway. I assume this is the same thing TSC might sell? I can't find their big catalog right now, so I guess I'm giving them a call today anyway..
My owner's manual lists it as an option and I just requested an LMC catlog, so I guess I'll see what they have to offer soon!
it says it's for a chevy, but it is for our year fords.. talk about bringing a thread back from the dead! it works great, though. i've had it on for about a year now.. i can get pics.. (there may be some in my gallery here, though..)
Thanks for the link Rexman, looks like a much nicer product than the Acar unit. This is pretty much what I was looking for, but I could only find a couple online outfits on the other side of the country that listed it. I'll call around locally Monday, only tractor supply was open when I remembered to get the phone book out. They don't actually sell one anymore it seems, but I figured that after finding their big catalog & seeing they had nothing listed but spare mounts for trailers..
I seen yours on the 87 there (nice truck btw), and is the hole in the plate part of how it's lockable?
Jas88- Since TSC doesn't even sell them anymore, I wouldn't be surprised if ol JCW quit too. I guess most people are more than happy to have it bouncin around the bed, only I like havin 4x8 of mine available and I'd really be a fool if the scrapyard magnet took it!
I have a factory bed mount spare. Like it . Gose from upper bed lip down to dog leg to clear fuel filler bumps out. Take tire off for big things. But most time no problem. Recommend drivers side front ( Dose not block view as much) but any place works. I've used it with cross bed tool box with spare on back bed. Good luck

I had thought about putting a reciever hitch on the front to add a little versatility(as soon as I find a cheap one on ebay) and making a tire carrier to slide in (the store bought one is 80 bucks). Bad idea (the spare adapter)????
After reading the war stories and having to fight to hang my spare the one time I had to move it, I think I'm going to take it off this evening while the weather is still good and ratchet strap it to the front of the bed until I come up with something better.
