Anyone here try these new E3 plugs ? They say they are suppose to add power while increasing efficiency. they also state a no foul design, good for small engines. (offer both small engine[lawnmower/weedwacker] and automotive plugs).
Remember this, the spark will jump the the path with the LEAST resistance. So only one electrode at a time is going to draw fire, not all 3 at the same time. If you are looking for a GOOD set of plugs for your truck you can't beat the STANDARD MOTORCRAFT plugs for an older one and the platinums for a newer one.
Stay with Motorcraft. The splitfires don't work any better and these won't either. I wouldn't put one in my truck, and my lawnmower will run on just about any plug.
Here are a few tidbits.......Has anyone used E3s yet? Or are we all speculating??? No, the Splitfire is NOT the same design. Check the web. Read the test results and design on independent sites.
Hey Bob, Motorcraft isn't a scam right???...Hmmmmmmmm…Autolite or is it Fram? Ring a bell???
Sounds like a Grandpa thread here folks. I have purchased these plugs which cost me $3 more than the current archaic design. Ford’s choices are always what will profit them. Also, the dumber the public remains the more the seller will sell. With gas prices on the roof, it's worth a try to save gas. I, unlike some, will at that time give my comments.

Motorcraft and Autolite spark plugs are both manufactured by Honeywell, a division of Allied Signal. Fram is also a division of Allied Signal......
E3's look similar to the special plugs used in Mazda rotary engines. There must be special requirements for that engine that are not common in others. That does not make that design good for any other engine. Many BMW and some Toyota engines use a two ground electode version because of special combustion chamber issues. Stick with the stock spark plug configuration for your engine. Has anyone changed the plugs on a three-valve 5.4 yet? It looks like a very strange design.
I said that they are the same as splitfire because of the multiple firing paths they offer. The problem is that the spark will always go to the ground with the least resistance, which is also the one without a gas droplet in the way. The spark will only go to one side, as soon as there is a trace of fouling on the plug, only the less fouled grounding lug will get the spark.
No doubt. But, this design is not your typical J shaped spark plug (ie, Splitfire) and therefore the a variance in the flame ingnition IS different.
"<!--StartFragment --> All he has to do is mention how a change in electrode design–from a single J-shaped piece with rounded corners to a three-legged unit topped by an open diamond-shaped end piece with square corners–can boost power and fuel economy in any spark-ignition engine, forces air-gap discharges, and creates the preferred edge-to-edge spark path. And Ford takes their share of the pot for the name and usage. Autolite was the tout 20 years ago..Please show me any proof that spark plugs MFR by these folks are ANY better than after market....???

On a J shape design....I cannot contend that. But as new technololgy rears it's head forward and is the case with most of us, we are hesitant to change and will knock what we have not truly tried. Until one of us does.....then we are shouting in the wind. The next thing is what the hell Ford was thinking when they thought about changing out the plug, IF there was any thought at all. I miss my '82 GT.

The Motorcraft plugs will be the correct heat range, not the case with a lot of after-market plugs.
