Alright guys, heres the deal; 03 F250 XLT Sport CC SB 4x4 V10 w/25k miles;
I'm curious if this is a problem for warrenty to fix or if its just the nature of the beast. My 03' 2V V10 seems to have a slight miss when Idling, you can feel it while its just sitting there but as soon as you rev it up at all it disappears and is silky smooth. Does anyone elses do this or is it just mine?? I'm wondering if it's just the nature of the beast as my old 302 Idled rough from day one and the dealer and every one I had talk to had told me how it was just the nature of the beast. But this was also the first year of the MPFI on the 302 (86' - actually an end of year 85') in the pickups. Does the same thing to this day with a 140k on the clock and has never caused a problem. So do all V10s have a rough Idle or what? I probaby shouldn't say rough as its barely noticable, but non the less I want to get it fixed while its still under warrenty. I'm kinda thinking its maybe an injector hanging up just a little bit. What do you guys think???? fred, ken; you guys know more about these animals then I do, shed some light on this please.
I'm taking it in for warrenty on that wonderfull ESOF AGAIN!!!!! so I may have them take a look since it'll be there anyway. If you want to know more about the warrenty work I'm having done go over to the Super Duty forum and read the thread titled Squeaky Front Hubs. I don't want to repost the same info so if you have comments on that subject you can post them here to. Thanks as always, everyone always has a lot of good info on here so I'm sure someone will know something about the subject.
Mine has had a slight miss at idle, hardly noticeable but i can hear it, since the truck was new.I suspect it is a coil pack that isnt quite right.I now have 106,000 miles on her.Sorta sounds like a bad plug, but it isnt bad enough to warrant hunting it down since it runs real well otherwise.
My 01 and this 05 V10 both have weird days and if I am sitting in the cold smoking a cigar and reading some work papers I sometimes notice a bobble, miss, hickup...whatever... then she smooths right out
Most mornings after sitting all night she fires up normal...but every now and then I get a hard start quick jump way up the tach and then settle back down, it's just a very momentary thing but always makes me look and think what the hell is that all about girl? You don't want to be out in this stuff either?
My 2 v10s have never done the blue puff of smoke that is frequently winter start up reported.
I mostly watch her for a minute and decide she just needed to shiver and shudder like I do when someone out there is talking about me.
Ah, the old ten cylinder burp. Yes, they all have that slight stumble now and then. It could be a weak coil, an IAC valve clogging a little (but goes away...somehow) or an EGR valve that's trying to stick. It all disappears for awhile, then comes back when you least expect it.
The quick fire-up and shutdown is when it happens the most - like when you need to crank it up on a cold morning and move it just a few feet then kill it. The next time you crank it you'll probably get an earful from her.
I wouldn't worry about too much unless it starts doing it regularly, and then I'd take it to the dealer and let 'em hook it up. Saves time that way.
Same here guys, Get that burpy stumble every once in a while. It is funky when you hear it for the first time. It as always had a roughish idle all the time, but on occassion it definately has a miss in it on start up. My 03' V10 has 41K miles on it and still runs super.
All three of my modulars have the exact same slight miss. Two 4.6L's in a '96 t-bird and a '97 cougar, and an '01 V10.
Nothing I ever did on the '96 cleared it up, and I gave up trying. Always ran great cruise and highway, never anything else but that slight idle weirdness.
I've heard of some that do not have it at all, but they are in the minority I think
When the check engine light comes on, you'll know you have a real miss
Mine does it too-since it was new. I never worried about it and it's never gotten any worse. I think the newer pickup engines (all makes) make alot of strange noises but most are considered normal.
My 2001 Silverado 5.3L sounded like a diesel on a cold startup but the dealer said that was normal and it never got worse or impacted it's performance. I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets suddenly worse. Same with my wife's 05 F150 5.4L-it has a slight ticking at idle but it goes away when you rev it a little.
holy cow, you owned a chevy!!!!!!!!!!!! just kidding, lol. We'll see what happens, its at the dealer as of 7:00am this morning (wed) for the 4 wheel drive issues and I asked them to also check out the stumble so we'll see what they come up with.
The first week I had my V10 I noticed a rough idle condition only while stopped at an intersection. Never while it was running in park. Took it to the dealer. Tech told me that he took it out and could notice same thing. All computer test showed normal. He did some more testing at found an occasional mis-fire on #6. He ended up replacing the #6 plug. Never had a problem since.
Hey, guys, I would appriciate it If you would wonder over to the Super Duty Forum and read the Squeaky Hubs thread as I just posted whats becoming a very frustrating situation. I don't want to post the same stuff twice, and you guys all have great info and ideas. Also I have heard no answer/comments on the miss in my engine, just a lot of BS thats starting to make me wonder what the heck is goin on with my truck. Just go check out that other thread and please chime in with your thoughts.
WOW , I have three modular engines 99 4.6 sohc, 93 dohc, and my 04 6.8 and they all have run flawlessly except when I washed the 99 I got the coils wet but after it dried out it runs great
