300 timing ?s

how is the timing set on an 81 300? i hooked up my light and there are no marks that even come close to the timing tab. i adjusted it till it was smooth and then backed it off a little. is the mark on the dampner a very small groove across the top of the back pulley? if so this isnt even close to lining up. i wonder if the dampner slipped. also what the heck is the spout connector? and where is it? im new to the 300 and im trying to tune one thats been neglected. help please.....

un plug the spout and time it to 10*btc then plug spout back in and it should run better yet.The spout connector is loop plug in that should be hanging by dist.

it sounds like the spout is only on injected 300s? still, whats the mark on the dampner look like?

While I can't help you on the damper question, I can say that if you have no computer, then you have no SPOUT. If it's a conventional distributor, then you need to disconnect the vaccum to the advance mechanism, and run the engine at the specified RPM on the emissions label or in the service manual, then set your base timing. As for the marks, I do not know what they'd look like on an 81.

my 95 has a thin scribed line for the timing mark.

Don't see why it would be much different on a carbed 300.

keep in mind the balancers do have a slight reputation for slipping with time. you might have to zero it yourself and make a new mark.
