It's weird, but on a recent "off-road" trip with some friends my license plate lights cracked, and are dead, I'm afraid of leaving them like they are, as they dont turn on at all, so my license plate is black at night, that's gotta be a phatty ticket! I bought some lamps from nampa that look exactly like the ones in the bumper (chrome step bumper option) but I see absolueltly no way of disconnecting the lights, other then cutting the wires, there's no visible harness they plug into, I popped em out of the bumper, and followed the wire from under the truck, they just go into a blue little plug, that has a white stress mark on it like its been bent back, but there is no seam on it to pop open...a lil help here?

my license plate light simply fell out when driving to the gas station, i bought me a new one for 1.99 at auto zone, just popped it in and one wire hook up and that was it.
The blue plug probably has a flat that wraps the plug that you can undo, but cut the wire and the blue plug out and then solder the wires together and you'll never have any more problems with your wiring.
Are you talking about the stock bumper license plate lights? If so, then the bulb simply twists & pulls out of that plastic housing. If you look at the back of the housing, you'll see what I'm talking about. I have seen the parts house license plate lights. And from what I can tell, mine put out a whole lot more light than they do.
Tried to replace mine last month. Even though it looked like you could take the bulb out of the little housing that popped out of the bumper it is actually a sealed unit. The replacement units that look exactly like the bad ones cost about 4 bucks each at auto zone. My bumper is not a stock Ford Bumper even if it was put on at the dealership. The little blue thing you saw is a type of crimp splice I needed one more plus the old one to put mine in. Took about 5 minutes.
