AS, No you can not. You can tell by the vin how it left the factory, but in 30 years a lot can be changed. Bolted up parts can be changed and in a couple of years of road dust look factory installed.
5 lug wheels would make it a F100. I6 & V8 are easy, look for plug wires like //// or \\//
thanks for the replys, so i have a 302 or it left the factory with one. would there be any numbers on the block/head to help identify it? thanks again.
I happen'd to read into this post, called my pops and had him read my VIN off to me.

So, by the Vin, I have a F100 ; w/ 360 ( factory at least ) ; made in SJ, CA ; but after that Im left hanging. Any help. This is just a curiousity thing.
what about finding out what tranny is in there? my truck has a blown tranny and i found quite a few 70's ford trucks in the junk yard but none my year/model. theres 150's, 250's, 350's all various years. i found on the vin tag in the door theres a tranny code. mine is G and theres a few in the junk yard with a G code for the tranny. would that mean its the same tranny and i could use it?
The Transmission code indicates the transmission installed in the vehicle

You have a F-100 with a 360 assembled in San Jose CA during Feb 1698. I think that your "C932306" has to many numbers recheck that and i will tell you for sure.
*** BUT I HAVE HEARD OF HIGH NUMBERS SO YOUR EXTRA DIGIT MAYBE POSSIBLE ***
I have a 72 F250 4x4 Ranger with a paint code of QW. does anybody know what colors are referenced. My dad says that the light green color is called wintergreen and the other color is white.
Q is "Winter Green" and W is "Saddletan" according to a website we can't mention here.
Thanks for the info, sure is strange that w is "saddle tan" unless that is another name for white because that is the color it is painted. The green on white color scheme is a good combination.
