I have a 2002 F150 Reg cab Flareside with a 4.6 Liter
I have a question regarding engine top end noise on startup. It isnt a noise comming from a stuck starter, its more of a top end noise. Whenever I start my truck when it is cold I hear a top end noise. The noise goes away about 10 seconds after stating cold.
There is no smoke from the exhaust and other than that the truck runs great.
Could this be related to Valve seals? Any suggestions would be appreciated
Sounds more like lifter chatter. Check your oil level or get an oil change if it has been awhile or its overdue. The oil isn't lubricating the top parts right at first so it takes a few seconds for the oil to circulate and get there then it quiets down. Could also be top end is worn and needs work. (Rocker arms...lifters....etc.) But on an 02, 4.6 liter, it shouldn't need top end work unless it was abused from the previous owner. Or it could have alot of miles on it.
I have changed the oil every 3000, and the engine has 55,000 miles. I have owned it for since 45,000. I am just concerned because I purchased the extended warrenty and I am still covered.
