Help! Engine Stops Without Warning

Without warning, the engine immediately stops while driving; then it begins running again without engaging the starter. I never know when this will happen. Purchased re-built Carb one year ago; new fuel filter; idles smoothly; no misses. Doesn't happen all of the time. Anyone ever had similar problem? Thanks in advance.

Well, due to the fact that you say it dies immediately,I would look more toward an electrical problem than a fuel problem. With a fuel problem it would usually cough or sputter or lose power while dieing, but an electrical problem in your primary ignition circuit would cause an instant off situation. So,the first thing I would check would be the connectors at the distributor and the coil.

Agree with King Triton, your problem is more than likely in the ignition system. Not familiar with the ignition system of an 84 F-150, is it electronic or do you have points? Used to have an EXP that died like that but had to cool before it would restart. Ended up being the magnetic pickoff in distributor would fail when hot. Just a thought.
