Different 9in axle lengths?

What the crap. I thought the parts guy was an idiot selling me the wrong brake drums twice! Come to find out, I have two different lenth axles in the back of my "67" 4x4. Well, one is from a 67 and the other I guess is from a 68. Are there more lengths than just these two? Passenger side hub sticks out about 1" from the brake backing plate, and the Drivers side only sticks out .25" The passenger side (1968) has a deeper drum and the driver side has a more shallow drum. I guess it's off to the salvage yard.

I do not know if the axle lengths are different but if you are measuring from the backing plate then that is what I suspect is different. I bet the brake shoes are different widths as well. I know there are different backing plates for different width shoes for cars but I do not know what was offered for those years or what could even be swapped. The Early model Broncos also had two different backing plates but the axles were all the same.

Sorry, that is more what I meant. I think the axle itself is the same length but fron the backing plate outwards is different. 67 is the shorter one and the long one is fron 68.

If you can or they fit just swap a newer set of backing plates on from a 9 inch. Send me a PM if you need a set.
