Please can anyone help me. I am needing to know how to bypass this feature. I know that it can be done but am uncertain how on this model. Currently have 96 F-150 EFI 5.0 with E4OD. Have made some mods such as K&N filter, 3" exhaust straight pipes from cat out (sounds really good) ,running msd super coil with Bosch Platnium Plus 4 plugs, and a superchips power module(module is great for power and performance but it does not do away with speed limiter). On earlier models there was a wire to cut to prevent the PCM from recieving a signal to cut back to idle. Please...Please someone help me.
well, i really don't know about cutting a wire to cancel it, but a quick fix, one that is temporary, would be to pull the 15 amp fuse that controls the interior lights, and the speed control, which will in turn cut off the speed limiter. the drawbacks would be no interior lights, no functioning speedometer, and no mileage being added to the odometer. plug the fuse back in, and you are back where you started.
I need to do away with this because I use my Truck for Fire Deparment & when I need to go I need to go. The removal of the fuse is ok but I need a perminate solution I don't have time to stop & remove fuse every time before a fire. Thanks for your help & if you don't mind please continue to help me find this info.
I also use my truck for Fire Dept use. But there is no need to go that fast. If you are in such a hurry to get there that you exceed your sped or rev limiter, then you are endangering more lives than you are trying to save.
We have run into that same problem in our Dept. which has resulted in several individuals losing the right to respond directly to the scene.
Also, it is individuals that drive this way that give Volunteer Firefighters a bad name. I personally never run over the speed limit. Even when I'm running emergency traffic (In the Ambulance /Firetruck/Personal Vehicle). I am out here trying to help serve the public the best way possible, and if drivng the speed limit helps me then so it shall be.
I will not feel sorry for anyone that gets a ticket while running "hot" to a scene. Not to long ago in a neighboring dept. there was an 18 y.o. Fire Fighter that was clocked running 95 mph With Lights & siren running. Guess what he got a ticket, Plus the judge fined him even more on top of what the ticket was for.
I was thinking the same thing . I know where I live all the VFD guys live or work within 5 miles of one of the FD . If you are driving to the speed where the rev limiter takes over then thats good . Ive found that the VFD guys all have the emergency lights etc & most people let them pass & they arrive at the FD safely & quickly . Plus , Most trucks arent very stable beyond at higher speeds .
My point was this, There is no reason to drive that fast going to a call. There was an incident in Houston about a week ago where an Officer was in a hurry trying to catch up to a fleeing suspect in a police chase. Well, he hit a vehicle head on. I don't remember how many people (High school kids) were injured, but I do remember that at least one was killed.
I will admit, there are times when you need to get to the scene. But There is no need to endanger innocent lives in the process, After all isn't that what being a Volunteer FireFighter is supposed to be all about. SAVING LIVES INSTEAD OF TAKING THEM.
I originally meant to say " thats not good " to be driving fast enough for the speed limiter to kick in . I type too fast sometimes & leave crucial words out of a sentence . I agree / agreed with you . I think the worst part of being a Vol fireman is getting people to get out of the way even with all the emergency lights you all have on your vehicles , Saw a Vol fireman yesterday trying to get past someone that simply refused to budge or move aside for 10 secs to let him pass .
I can say, been there, and I've seen that!
We had someone do that to us, & we were in ou 1964 F-550 cabover. It's not an easy truck to miss. At least not intentionally anyway.
