My side mirrors don't swivel anymore, when I do turn them, plastic falls out from the swivel area. They have definetly moved away from proper position. Need to replace and looking for good source. '93 F150 SC 4x4 SB. Thanks
I had this problem with my mirrors as well. Once that plastic inside breaks that holds the retaining ring, all you can do is buy new mirrors. It seems they need to be kept lubricated regularly. With the new mirrors in which you'll have to invest, be sure to spray some wd40 on them now and again. I know I will on mine.
I've been keeping my eye out for a pair of mirrors myself. I have the swing-away style but I found out they don't swing-away very well when driving to close to mailboxes.
I've tried the dealer like you, but their prices are outrageous. I've tried the junkyards, but their mirrors are always beat up and look like crap. I have yet to find a factory equivalent replacment mirror, but when I do I'll let you know.
I do know one thing, don't by the Wally-World pieces of junk. They're plastic and flap in the wind like a flag.
fyi - I had to change mine out when it failed to "swing away" and broke off.
There is a bolt inside the door that needs to be removed. You will need to removed the interior door panel to get at it.
