As time goes by, i find myself needing a laptop instead of a desktop...as it stands now, i have a dell 8200 (piece of junk) and an alienware desktop area 51, which i love. Now finding information on a really nice laptop, I am lead to think that maybe i should stay with alienware and get the area51m 770 laptop. Not cheap by any means, but the only competitor is the Dell XPS2. Not really looking for a gaming laptop...just more into productivity and general use. Alienware only makes gaming laptops, but seeing that is all they make, i still would like an alienware laptop. Have'nt had one problem with my area 51 desktop. Now Dell, i have had 4 problem computers in the past 2 years, however i am willing to go back to them if the XPS is much better than the area51m. I do like that the alienware comes with a full size keyboard and number pad and 2 optical drives....any help here?? thanks in advance!

what kind of problems? I own 2 dells and all my attempts to network them have failed. other than the networking thing. (could be my poor pc skills) I've had no problems. My first pc was IBM's "aptiva" now that was one lump of junk. cost me 2000 bucks too. I would go with area51 over dell any day.
even with laptops?? Let's see here...the first dell was a a pentium 3 which the motherboard just ceased to function one day after the warranty and all dell did was say...sorry maybe you should upgrade to a new one...the second one was an 8100 which had an adept liking to the blue screen of death...the third one was also an 8100 which just got a wire short for some reason and screwed up my power supply...and finally I am one my fourth dell, an 8200 which had gone through a radeon graphics card, and also a really nice Nvidia geforce 4 ti. Both cards the fans stopped working and the card managed to burn up leaving my office smelling like burning electrical...that was great. So overall, I am not a fan of Dell but if they have improved a bit I am still willing to buy their products. thanks for the help though.
As a former field service technician I saw Dell had a lot of problems. Mainboards went out and Dell had no replacement boards. We had to use a 3rd party refurbished board with little guarantee. I saw 3 systems that ate as many a 4 hard drives in a year with any resolution to the problem. Sound card went out often and the tech support was little to none! I saw 2 or 3 laptops and they had to be sent to the factory and were replaced with refurbished units because "They were non-repairable".
I like HP laptop the best at this time on history, features and price!
Yeah dell has a lot of problems in my book, but i do realize that companies all have their share of problems, but 4 computers...maybe i'm being a bit too forgiving...i had an hp pavilion...and it worked pretty good, bu then i got an area 51 and have had no problems and it still runs great. I do have an hp ipaq hx4700, and i love it, but i have never been too into hp desktops. Their handhelds are above and beyond what is already on the market. I will look into hp notebooks though...thanks
The IT geeks at work swear by Alienware, but as was stated earlier they are pricey and gamer-oriented. I bought an HP laptop with the 17" wide-screen last year, and am very pleased. It's huge, heavy, and problem-free. Full keyboard, full numbers on the right side were some of the reasons I got it.
