I’m working on my friends 4wd V6 Explorer, and there is this real odd sound coming from the area the torque converter is located, it is a rather fast clicking sound like there is a finger that’s hitting the side of something ever time it passes (like in wheel of fortune), now the strange part about it is, in any gear, its stops just about when it revs over 2g, even in neutral. Were not sure what it is any advice would be greatly appreciated. also if there are any DIY post on how to remove the transfer case and tranny that would be great, I have removed 4wd trannys of Jimmys and Blazers, but not sure how much diff the Fords are. I just had the same thing happen to my '92. It turns out that the flexplate had cracked again. Higher rpms made it straighten out.
Let us know what you find.
