im curious as to how the borla exhaust system sounds. i dont want something as throaty as the flowmaster
Borla's are typically waaay louder than you want if you have headers and performance cats. On my Mustang 5.0 with eq length shorties and perf cats, unbelievably loud. Talked with Borla, and they said that they are designed only to be installed with the factory manifolds/headers and cats. WTF??? I asked. Typically if you are going for performance, you want to open up the whole exhaust, right??? Why open up just the backend without opening up the front.
On a side note, I put the Borla on my Range Rover - Stock front end like above. Took advantage of an insurance claim on the exhaust - long story. Liked it, though it had a little too much internal noise at some speed/load situations when people were in it.
I have borla cat back on my 2001, not loud at all. Stock headers and cat...Cant hear much diff in the cab at all. Does not even compare to teh borla my buddy has on his 1998 Mustang GT, that is LOUD. It looks really sweet(check my gallery), and has a little growl, but you can only hear it behind the truck...
I was going to originally but after talking to the muffler guys and some other post on here I decided to make it a single in and dual out. The whole thing including the exhaust was 260 bucks at the local muffler shop, but to me it was well worth the expense.
Hi Wes. How does it sound now? Is it unbearable inside? Would the passengers have a problem, even if they are children? Did you have to remove the spare? I inquired about the same, one muffler shop(a national chain - big one) told me they could not do single in and dual out because there is a gas line in the way on the driver side. Personally i think they did not want to have to bend pipe. I talked to another large chain and they said they could probably do it for about $500.00. I'm curious if yours was a chain or private business.
Thanks
No it was installed by a local muffler guy who has been doing this for years. He had no problems routing around the spare tire and he said nothing about a gas line problem. It only took him about 45 mins to do the whole job and it looks like a factory install. Everyone that has ridden in the vehicle has commented how awesome the expedition sounds. It is not loud inside at all. My wife is picky as hell about everything and she loves it. To me it was a perfect choice.
After searching around and reading numerous threads on this issue I bit the bullet and ordered a Cat Back Bassani System. OOHHH Yeah Baby !
Pros - sounds like a big block
- doesn't kick down on a hill I drive up every day to work, (maybe a bit more more torque or Hp). I drive the same speed +/- 3 kph.
- fuel mileage is increasing, saying that the daytime temperatures have been increasing as well (from low 40F to 50F). I will post any improvements
- did I mention that Yukons/Tahoe/ Subs run and hide
- quiet at less than 2000 rpm on highway
- straight forward installation
- real quality
Cons - cost
- much louder than stock
- resonance/drone around 1500 rpm depending on throttle position
