I have managed to gut anything of value out of the F100 I dragged home Thursday, EXCEPT the ignition switch. Would someone please explain to me how to get the dern thing out without resorting to a plasma cutter, oxyacetylene, or a sawzall? My shop manuals are on order, but have not arrived yet, and I am an impatient sort........ All I have managed to do is compress the spring a few times and rotate the bezel a couple of quarter-turns!
stick a safety pin in the little hole in front of the switch cylinder while turning the key to the left (towrds acc) The cylinder should pop out. once the cylinder is out you can hold the switch from under the dash while twisting the bezel towards the left siould also pop out
In order to remove ignition w/out damaging the lock, you need the key. You will notice a small pin hole on the face of the ignition switch. With the key in the ignition you insert paper clip, or something simular, in the pin hole and press while turning the key counter clockwise. Once lock mechanism is removed you should hold the bezel and turn the switch from the backside. You will need the key to install. If no key, i have removed by gradually working up in various drill sizes until the you drill out the retaining mechanism.
FT&T, I agree with the method described. I thought you turned the key to acc to start, but maybe not. There is a big spring on the back side. The back has to be pushed and the front held until the pin can come out of the J slot and be relesed.
Again, thanks for all the good info, guys! I knew I was headed in the right direction. I do have the key, and I noticed the pinhole, and that it had to twist to unlock. Now I can get this cab out of here... Anyone have any use for a '61 bare cab? I hate to cut it up for scrap..... but it might be good for a few patch panels to someone.....? I'm near Buffalo, NY, lemme know!
