I'm pretty sure fsc is right because w/ no rear brakes.....basically at all......my truck still stops really well......but the pedal does go down really far
Sounds to me like you just need to adjust the backs....That should bring the pedal back up...
First off, hello to everyone. I am here trying to find out if brake line failure is common to the F150, 1995 year in particular. My father-in-law has a 1995 F150 XL 2WD 302ci manual trans. About 2 years ago while traveling on RT23 (state highway) his brakes failed going downhill approaching slowing/stopping traffic. He said he had NO brakes. He cut the wheel and hopped the curb, putting the truck BETWEEN a telephone pole and the guidewire and coming to a stop in the Burger King parking lot. It turns out the front brake hose where the rubber and metal meet failed. FAST FORWARD 2 YEARS. Last week while picking up the engine he had rebuilt for his Chevelle, as he's backing up to the bay door and tries to stop he's got NO brakes again. He hits the E-brake and gets out and there's a puddle on the ground. THANK GOD he didn't get hurt this time either. Once again brake line went bad, but this time the rear let go. Rusted through. The truck has never been in a flood or anything so what gives the truck's only 10 years old. PS, he also had to replace a power steering line that failed. Anyone have any ideas besides get rid of the truck before he gets killed?

I see from your profile that you're from NJ. Well, here's the short answer to your question. Road salt. As much salt and brine as they dump on the roads around here in the winter (I'm from just outside of Philly), the undersides of our vehicles take a real chemical beating. Every spring, the first thing I do is get the hose out and completely rince off the bottom of my Explorer and my wife's car to try and get rid of all 'winter remnants'.
Punisher... thats where my line failed at... bt the rubber hose and metal hose. also check out maa's idea. i do that every spring also, as i live in North Western PA (outside Pittsburgh). i watch my dads 97 Ram underbody go to crap as the years went on. also did eith of u guys undercoat ur cars/ truck? it saves A LOT of work in the future, but is a pia to loose up. i personally think its worth it.
I frequently take a hose to my frame rails and underbody, esp after the winter. I took the power washer to it a few weeks ago, and again last week REAL WELL. I also undercoated my wheel wells and outside of the frame rails. I ran out of spray for the inside of the rails.
itll be a few weeks b4 i can do such an thing again.. but the sunday after finals (BLAH) is gonna be a wash our boat and clean the (insert choice word here) out of my underbody.
Reminds me of a few years ago when I lost the brakes in a 51 Chev. I was going downhill in the downtown here (Toronto) and my only thought was to stop as I was coming up on a redlight on Yonge St. (Longest road in Canada-HAHAHA)
Drove it into a brickwall at 90 km/h (50 mph). Stopped it!! Single master cylinder-broken rear brake line. Ouch!!
Cop charged me with careless. Got off cuz as the guy who took my case said. (ex-cop) "Careless is being "inconsiderate of other drivers", I was an O.P.P. cop for 20 years and i don't know if I would have been as "considerate" as you."
He said that since I knew what I was doing, (STOPPING the car!!) I was "anything but careless."
You done good man. You done good.

Yep, I broke a line the rear of my first car and lost the brakes. Car in front of me stopped short so I hit the brakes, wheels lock up for a second but then the line broke and no more brake pressure.
Happened so fast, I couldn't even try to down shift to 1st, so I swerved onto a field... phew...
thanks man. good to hear u got out of the ticket and put the cop in his place respectfully.
(OK there IS a lot more to the story but wouldn't bore you with the details-this is YOUR thread-LOL) But when we walked into court the guy defending me sees the cop and says something along the lines of "Oh no, not THIS guy!!". HAHA.
LOL my dad got a ticket from a cop like that. "excessive use of gas" dad faught it got an affitdavid sayin it wasnt excessive from his clients (it was in his Vette) and the judge anulled the citation. after the cop left the judge told my dad that the cop was a "manly part of body" head lol
