As I understand it the new '06 will be on the lots by the last of this month. I placed an order about 2 weeks ago and the dealer thinks it will be here in about 3 more weeks.
"the last year of any model run for Ford tends to be the best in relation to reliability (all the bugs worked out.) The classic "Super-Duty" look that started it all, should hold up well with time. I'm just glad I don't have to make this decision, because I honestly don't know which way I'd go, either. That was a lot of help, wasn't it?"
I do have to make that decision, and it isn't easy. Mrs. Bear is helping a bit, though- reminded me how I've been whining ever since '97 because I didn't buy the last of that bodystyle PSD.
If you want BIG improvements to power, steering, options, and variety of equipment levels (or so i've heard ) - I would wait till 07.
However if you are still dissapointed with missing out on the 97, the 06 may be the way to go, as the looks will be changing for the 07 - and depending on your POV, not neccessarily for the better.
Prehaps wait (if the looks are important) till the 07 gets officially released at an auto show, and make up your own mind.
I stopped and and took a peak at three new 06 SD's at the Ford dealership. They looked identical to 05's except the chrome wheels on the XLT Reg.Cab looked a little different.I am wondering if the 07's will be out in June of next year?Does anyone know when the 07's will be available to order and what changes there will be?I think I would like to order an 07.Thanks!
You could see the '07 as early as January of '06, but I'm thinking it will be more like March or April of next year. I don't think Ford will wait till the traditional October unveiling.
Holy Moly People! I can see the anticipation with the 07's coming, but can someone please give me some rebate info on the 2006's that are just coming in?!?!! I want to grin when I drive too!!!
Sorry - had to vent...
CrimsnTide, When I checked FordVehicles.com earlier today they were offering a cash rebate of up to $2500 (I think) on the 05's.I did not see any rebate for the 06.They may wait a few months to offer a rebate on the 06 because of it being a new model that is just coming out.Good Luck!
Thanks for the info. I know about the rebates on the 2005's, but I am having a hard time finding one (Super Duty) I will take. If I knew a rebate would be in place when I took posession of a 2006 (8 - 10 weeks after ordering) I'd order one now... As mentioned elsewhere, yoyu would THINK Ford would have to follow suit with the other guys and their rebates.... I'm looking VERY closely now...
CrimsnTide, I doubt Ford will put a rebate on the 06 models until most of the 05 inventory is depleted.I heard overall auto sales are down so it could be a while. You may want to ask your local dealership or maybe ask 1956MarkII or Polarbear. They probably know the trend from past experiences.Good luck!
I looked an black '06 250 Lariat this weekend. It had the chrome package which included a billet looking grille( plastic but nice looking ). It also had the 20" wheels which put it waaay up in the air. Nice looking truck.
Good question- I've been burned a couple times, telling people, "oh, yeah we can swap them." Found out later that the plugs on the back are totally different, so they won't work (unless you're an electronics engineer and you're a master at soldering and wiring). The ony way to know for sure is to pull them out and look at the back sides.
Jeff- you're forgetting that with any luck at all Sirius is integrated into the ECM, and a retrofit could cost half as much as the truck itself. Been there, done that on various GM upfits.
