Hello everyone! To start off, Im not very familiar with Ford trucks, as the only truck Ive had for the last 14 years is a Chevy. But I really like the looks of some of the older Ford trucks and Id like to purchase one, drop in a new motor and manual tranny, repaint myself and fix it up. Ive noticed this older rusty Ford truck sitting in someones driveway for a long time. Not sure if its a project truck that never took off or what, but I would like to purchase it if the price is right. I went by there to talk but no one was home, so I examined the truck. Its rusty, but the rust appears to be on the surface only so if can be sanded. Im guessing this truck is between 1960 and 1965, but like I say, I dont know these trucks. How can I tell what year this truck is... to be sure the person is telling me the truth? The last inspection sticker is 1989 but its too blurry to make out any other details on the sticker.
Notes: has F100 on the side of the hood, has the small back glass, wraparound bumper into the back fender, rounded rear fender wells over the wheels, top sides of truck bed are angled at approx 45 degrees and then rolled inwards. Hood surface is more the squared style than rounded. Thanks
Post the serial number if you have it. The year can be determined correctly that way. Some of the truck have mix and match parts on them and from a distance, you can say it's this particular year when it's another. Best way is by the serial number.
The back sounds like an 40's model bed, along with the discription of the rear window. More square than round hood could be anything from 50s through 66.
So some basic questions.
Is it a slick sided, or a step side?
Is the front windshield curved around the sides?
Is the hood slightly shallower in the center, 1/2 inch?
Is the front leaf springs or coil. Is there a Twin I Beam emblem on it?
What does the grill look like?
ftry7ford, thanks for sharing those pics. The truck I looked at appeared older. I searched some sites and I found a pic that (I think) looks pretty much like the truck.
66Beater, I'll try to get pics this evening and post them.
Is it a slick sided, or a step side? Its a step side.
Is the front windshield curved around the sides? Yes.
Is the hood slightly shallower in the center, 1/2 inch? I dont remember.
Is the front leaf springs or coil. Is there a Twin I Beam emblem on it? Dont know, but I will check.
What does the grill look like? It had a welded steel grill guard in front of the grill which will need to go, but I didnt look closely at the grill. I will get pics and supply here if the people dont mind. Thanks!
the door tag will be on rear of left door or on inside of glovebox door....all 61-6 trucks VIN begin like F10 or F25....F10 is 1/2 ton, F25 is 3/4 ton, the last 6 numbers tell what year it is as the years were broken up into certain number groups....61 stated with 100001 as i recall and 66 ended with like 870000 or so...if you can, post the vin and someone here can decode it....you can post rest of tag info as well if you want....
Thanks for the heads up Camper. They arent home again, but I took some pics before it got dark. What do ya'll think? Is this a reasonable truck for fix up or too much rust?
What year would you guess it is?
I agree....straight truck...as to the rust, look over the top as best you can...heavily rusted areas pit alot generally before going through....I have not seen too many of the 67-9 stepsides though....wonder what the prod. numbers are for them....Keep us posted....
Maccer;
Barry is on track with the truck being a 67-up model; those emblems on the side of the hood where for trucks from 68- 72 year frame; (I believe). I don't know it the 67-whatever forum has a user friendly site that's posted like the one by Fordboypete did as a read first located as the first thread on this forum; It breaks down the outside appearance differences which most can ID a truck by its grille; but the grilles are enter- changeable; look at past threads in the search site and view post in reference to inspecting trucks for wear & tear etc. also view the 67 forum and as those nice folks about what to inspect on the truck and post those same picture for them to help you and determine the value of the truck.
