Inside door handle
I went to get out of the van and my inside door handle popped and doesn't work.So I rolled down the window and opened it from the outside. What normally breaks, any suggestion would be a help.I don't want to get to the fun stuff like shocks, steering rack and barkes until I can get in and out. Thanks Kathie
I can't compare to my Aero because it has no power windows or doors and I think the handle assembly is different.
Here is how it is on one of my cars that has power locks and windows I think the design should be similar.
There is a metal linkage that connects the door handle to the latch assembly. There should also be a piece of plastic that clips onto the metal to stop the linkage from falling off the inside handle.
The outside handle has its own linkage to the latch so that will still function fine.
To fix this you will need to remove the door trim panel and see what happened to the linkage if it just fell out of the inside handle pop it back into the handle if the linkage retainer broke then the linkage will just fall out again pick up a new retainer at the Ford dealer and you should be set.
