When parking truck today, kinda on a grade I set the brake really hard so it wouldn't roll and CRACK brake goes another 1" or so in and bottoms out, pulling on cable wont release the brake, but pulling cable and yanking on the pedal brought it back out and a small metal cylinder with a round crack on the side of it fell out from the assembly...brake light stayed on and rear brakes smelled like burning when I got it home...HELP!!!
taking to a garage tomarrow, but if this is fixable myself it would be WAYYYY cheaper!

I wouldnt advise driving it any further to reduce the amount of repairs you will have . Im sure the cable seized at some point which locked the rear brake shoes . More than likely you are looking at new brake shoes , new cables & any associated hardware & possibly new brake drums if they cant be resurfaced . Using your parking brake everytime you park your truck is a good idea , it keeps the cables free of corrosion .
This happened to my '81 F100, with the qualification that I don't remember FOR SURE if the pedal dropped an additional one inch. I can tell you, however, that due to setting the brake really hard, a piece of the Parking Brake mechanism bent. The good news is, I bent it back, and the brake worked fine (for a year!). The bad news is, it's happened again. You have to remove the mechanism, and you'll see what I mean (at least on an '81). I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but I don't remember exactly which part it was, but it was easy to bend back.
