Hi Guys, I am posting from Australia where we do not have Expys. I am considering using an expy front axle for a project. Does anyone have some photos of their front axle, or know of a wesite where I could view some good photos of the expy front axle? Can anyone tell me if the Haynes Exp. Repair Manual shows the front axle in relative detail? Unfortunately I just can't go down to the local wrecker or Ford Dealer and crawl under a vehicle, so I am going to have to rely upon you fair folk. All the Best. Kind Regards, Trevor.
Hi, I didn't realise that the Expy front diff configuration had changed over the years. What I am seeking is an independent front axle with the pumpkin offset to the left hand side. (Similar to the Ford Explorer, but I would have thought that the Expy diff would be heavier duty). Can anyone tell me if the Expy fits, or has fitted this configuration, and give me the years? Please steer me towards any pictures so that I really do have an idea of what I am talking about. Regards, Dumb Australian
Pumpkin hasn't moved... it's always been on the left.
But, the early '97-'98 (maybe '99 too) has a vacuum activated center-axle disconnect. Later, with the "A4WD only" models ('99? '00-'02), it was just a 'regular' diff. Neither series had "hubs" for 4x4 engagement.
Now, with the '03+ models, it's a regular diff, but the mounting points and wheel-ends are different... they have "hubs" that lock in 4WD.
I don't have any pics of the '97 we used to own, but I can take some of the '04 we have now if you'd like.
Thankyou for the information. Yes, I woud appreciate it if you could send some pictures . I can give you my email address if you need it. Regards, Trevor
