Ok im looking at buying a 1974 F150 4x4 with a 360 4sp. The problem is the engine has the stock carb don't know if its been rebuilt or what. 2b. I talked to the owner who lives 85miles away and theses are his exact words he said the engine runs smooth but when you try to acclerate it cuts out like its running out of fuel he said the fuel pump looks new so he doesn't think thats it. He goes on to say that it will cut out and stall when you press on the gas. He has driven it around the block.
What is the problem?
What will it take to fix? (please explain how if u can)
How much will it cost to fix if i do it myself?
How long will it take to fix on average?
I just need to get it running good enough to drive it the 85 miles home?
Thand you any help is appreciated
Assuming the timing is OK it sounds most likely that it needs a good carb rebuild. If you can do it yourself it shouldn't cost you more than about $50 for a good rebuild kit and carb cleaner. You will need to nurse it home by just feathering the accelerator and not trying to push it hard. How many miles on this engine? Might be worthwhile to replace the timing chain and gears if mileage is high.
