Clockspring replacement
Well, currently I have no horn and the airbag light is flashing, and I dont have cruise. I'm willing to bet that its the clockspring. I plan on picking one up from a junkyard because paying the $100 or insane fee from the dealer isnt very appealing.
What I am wondering now is how do I go about replacing it? I know I have to remove the airbag, and that sounds a little less than thrilling. But as long as its not blowing up in my face I think I'll be good.
Second it is easy to replace if you follow a few steps.
1. Unhook the battery for at least 10 minutes and best if you wait 30 for the stored voltage to drop.
2. Remove the screws that hold the airbag in place. Then gently remove the airbag to the point you can unhook the wires. Most shops and info suggest you cover the ends off the wires to prevent shorts.
3. Remove the steering wheel and any components behind the wheel and before the clock spring.
NOTE: You will need a steering wheel puller.
Note: The steering wheel will have a large nut holding it on the column and it may have a clip to prevent the nut from backing off the column.
4. Detach the clock spring wires from the column and remove any screws holding it in place. Some are held in place by clips.
5. The install is the reverse of the above. Make sure of your wiring connections before reconnecting the battery.
You may need to clear the codes after the install, but having the battery unhooked that long should clear them.
