What is it HELP?

Im looking at buying a 74 1/2 ton short box 4x4. It has a 360 engine and a 4 speed. The owner thinks it needs a new carb because when you start it up it runs fine but when you depress the gas at all the engine just cuts out. He says he doesn't think its the fuel pump because it looks newish. What do you guys think the problem is and how can i fix it? Thanks any help is appreciated.

sounds like a carb problem to me, if the price is right I would buy it, and start by rebuilding the carb. Somebody else will be along to help diagnose the problem in detail.

Sounds like the accelerator pump to me. If you take the air cleaner lid off and open the throttle, you should see gas squirt into the primary barrels of the carb. If you don't this is the problem. Could also be low floats (easy adjustment) or plugged fuel filter.

At the worst it needs a new carb -- about $300.

A bad ignition module can cause that problem also.
