I was just browsing the local paper for 73-79s like I always do and came across this!
1979 FORD F150 XLT LARIAT
red/white, 4X4, air, 8 cyl, CD, fully loaded, V8 (400), Frame off restoration (over 300 hrs of labor), Customized interior, Looks and drives better than new, Too many details to list, $45,000. (203) xxx-xxxx (2X). New Canaan
I saw a picture and its very nice, but $45K!!!-For a 150 no less.Put down the pipe pal.For that price you should be able to buy that truck and a new diesel F-350 to pull it around with!
Heres one for you guys. A few years back I seen a 79 250 4x4 go with 18,000 original miles go for $18,000 at an auction. Looked like it came out off the show room. It was a manual 4 speed. Those 79s have to be the most sought after truck Ford ever made. Those 79s were really built tough. It seemed like they never wore out. A kid I know has truck pulled a 79 250 4x4 with a 460 which they didnt come with but installed it many years ago. He hasnt been beaten yet. And has never had no trouble with that truck. Original 4 speed tranny and transfer case and differential..Now thats Built Ford tough.
Saw one awhile back sell for $8-10k *(can't remember exactly), it was a '78 3/4ton 2wd with a CTD and automatic that was in VERY nice condition. Had a flatbed though.
Most of the real good ones are selling for close to $10,000 on Ebay lately. A '79 crew just went for $15,000! While that 45,000 is crazy the values of these late '70's trucks is finally starting to creep up. Think about the time and money it takes to get one of these trucks back to that kind of shape? What would it be worth to you? The 10,000 to 15,000 price isn't so out of the question if done right!
Hey 351coupe, I've done alot of work down in New Canaan, maybe he's hoping for someone with the kind of money that's in that area to grab it. Who knows?
i sold my black 78 crew cab. i had swapped a 76 grill into it, and extended and boxed the frame(8ft bed), and swapped in a 2002 7.3 powerstroke, along with the automatic, kept the np 205, and put a dana 60 in the front, and the sterling 10.25 from the donor truck in the rear. i ran into the guy that bought it at a gas station. he was in a newer super duty, and jokingly asked if i wanted to trade. said no. he asked if it was for sale, i told him everythign has a price. he offered me 22,000 even. i figured he was full of shi$, but gave himm my number anyways. he called 2 days later, said he had cash. took me 3 hours to get all my personal stuff out, and she was gone. but its ok, i just bought a real nice 72 crew, and i really want to put a small caterpillar in this one. should be fun
I agree with Gregg. What is it worth to the buyer! I paid almost 12 grand for my 79 F-250 in 1996 from a Ford dealer and it was clocking 672 original miles, the title was documented to prove the mileage. I went straight to Old Volo Village and had it appraised, the appraisal came in at 18000.00, I would not part with it now for any less than 25 G's.
It all depends how bad the guy that is looking at it wants one of these trucks. I will probably be buried in one or hand it down to my boy when I can't get in it no more.
Well I emailed the guy with that truck asking if that was a type, and here is the response.
I wouldn't sell this truck for 30,000...I've already been offered that much...the reserve price is higher and you obviously don't know very much about this subject.
I am quite sure he didn't like my response either but oh well.
Well, his asking price is 30 k now. With him letting a restore shop do the restore for him, I would say he has more than 30K in it. I cannot figure anyone letting a shop do a restore then trying to sell it, thats a no winner situation. I did all of my own restoration, except the engine, and I bet I couldnt get a third of out of it, what I have invested in just parts/truck cost ..
I wonder if that steering wheel is the original factory unit that came on it ? I have never seen a factory 79 with a wheel like that, but that doesnt mean it didnt come on a special order truck I guess.
