Replace leaf springs?
Then I read somewhere here that it could be better to start with the rear end and make sure it's tight before working on the front end, and that a problem that we assume is in the front can actually be in the rear. So I decided that I would continue by replacing the rear leaf springs, bushings, and U-bolts. I planned on doing the work in my garage. I did the front coil springs myself and the rear leaf springs should be easier than that. I think the leaf springs will run around $400 for both, then add the bushings, U-bolts, ibuprophen, aspirin and band-aids to the total cost.
But after doing some research just today, I found a shop here in Sunny So Cal that will re-arch the springs, replace the bushings and U-bolts, and add one leaf to the stack, all for about $400.
I know my first and best choice is to simply replace the leaf springs, but what the hell. I'll save a few bucks, set aside the saved hours for the kids, and not subject my entire neighborhood to the expletives that I'm sure to spew forth if I do the work myself. I'm confident the ride will be better than it is now. Then I'll start thinking about putting some more time and money into the front end.
