I just purchase a '94 F-350 Crew cab with the E4OD tranny. 2 wheel drive. The truck comes with a freshly burnt tranny. I was hoping to find out what other trucks i could find the E4OD in and how i could positivly identify it as one. The local junkyards just tell you to go find and retrieve. Usually pretty good because of the price break but ive been burned a couple of times by purchasing the wrong parts. (No returns) . Thanks for your info in advance. Ryan
Also does anyone know of a website that will do parts interchange searches for you on all cars/parts. What a help it would be. I know the junkyard can do it but it costs $ to get it out of them.
Just noticed also that the E4OD was used behind some diesels. Are these interchangeable or do i need to get one out of a truck with the same motor. I have a 351. Is that 5.8? Im new to the ford thing. I like it so far though.
The diesel and 351 have different bolt patterns. A diesel box won't bolt to your 351, which is the 5.8L.
The 300 inch six (4.9L), the 302 (5.0L) and the 351 (5.8L) have the same bolt pattern. Those are the only E4ODs that will bolt to your engine.
You can find those in E and F series trucks. Some might also have the AOD/AODE/4R70W. Count the pan bolts to be sure. I think the E4OD has 20, the others have 14.
Im not near the truck right now. I know on my chevy if i looked at the stamp in the door jam it said what tranny the truck was originally equiped with. Does ford do anything similar under the hood, in the VIN or Door jam? Also what year range did they manufacture trucks with the E4OD? Thanks for your time.
There is a blue tag in the driver's door jamb. Under the letters TR will be an E if it is an E4OD. They were made from 1989 model year through the 1998 model year.
