Transmission went bad on way to work today. Happened all of sudden. RPM's went up, started slipping and got a trans fault in display. Couldn't pull up a slight grade. Had it towed to dealer. I'll post updates on what they do. Truck has been problem free till now. 04 XL Reg cab L/B 4X4 and 9500 miles. So far dealer has been very helpful.
Yes, I hope that it didnt truly go out. You would be surprised what a bad sensor can do to a transmission. I thought I had grenaded the E4OD in my bronco, but as it turns out, it was a combination of two sensors that went out. Glad to see the dealer has been helpful thus far.
Just an update - Talked to the dealer this afternoon and they are waiting on a torque converter, which is coming from New Mexico. They said it should be ready on Tuesday.
Got the truck back today! This is what is on the ticket-"Removed trans and found direct clutch piston seal broken. Burnt Fwd and direct clutches. Replaced all damaged parts and overhauled trans and valve body.Flushed cooler lines and replaced cooler." The torque converter was also replaced. Just from driving it home, I think it has had a problem from day one. I always felt it had flat acceleration and the shift points were a little wide. But now, none of that is present. I'll see after putting on some more miles. Carguy1959 I'll watch to see if that took care of the slip clunk.
I have the whine from 50-75 mph. I had the rear differnetial replaced once already. Does anybody know if there is a complete solution to this yet?
You're in the same boat I am in. I think it is a supplier problem and they replaced bad parts with bad parts. My parts have been backordered until 6/23/05 after they were backordered from late March to late April. They're apparently trying to get a new supplier or get the current one on the stick.
I had My Tranny go at 15,000 miles and Ford wouldn't fix it under warranty because of my mods I had 35" tires for only 2000 miles and a Superchip for 7000 and thats what they blamed it on so I paid $1700 to get it rebuilt.
That 1700 dollars got you a performance transmission or just a stock rebuild?
Would a dealer install "hi-po" parts on your transmission if you brought them in when they were going to reman the transmission?
Newest vehicle I've owned were 94's so I wouldn't know about warranties. I hope that Ford did good on the basic auto in these. One more reason I'd go Torqueshift I guess..
I don't know what kind rebuild I got cuz after Ford wouldn't do it I was sick of not driving my truck for a month so I brought it to the transmission place and told him I needed it rebuilt. I probably shoulda thought it out more and made sure i got a heavyduty rebuild.
