Yep you can. First off, relieve fuel pressure. Unplug your fuel safety switch(cant remember the exact name, should be on the pass side behind the pannel) let the truck run and then turn it over a few more times.Just drain all(or as much as you can) of the gas out, take out the straps and lower the tank as low as you can(2 people come in handy). THen take the filler pube off, the fume fent thingy (doing this will allow you to lower the tank more) and then take the gas lines off. Then remove the electrical connector off of the pump and take 'er out!! Good luck with the fuel lines, if their anything like mine are they are gonna be a PITA x 20. Are you reuseing the pump?? Thats not too hard to take out. Hope this helps
If it helps, I used a transmissoin jack with a 2x8 attached to it. I strapped the tank to the 2x8 with duct ties, they are long enough and stout enough and lowered it enough to get to the items mentioned in the first post. Took about 4 hours start to finish.
Just did mine in, I'm from Maine to. You may need a Saws All to cut the bolts off. Pressure wash under the truck and above the tank and in the frame rails by the tank. Removing the filler tube rubber hose off the tank will be hard but its just tight or loosen all the bolts that hold the filler hose to the truck. Use only brass tools to remove the locking ring on the fuel pump. I had to pry mine off it was to rusted. You may want to put in a new fuel pump to. Your fuel tank sending unit should be ok if it reads the fuel level correctly on the dash.
If you get all except about a gallon of gas out it isn't very heavy. I disconnected everything, then used a 2x4 to hold the tank against the underside of the bed while removing the straps, then lowered it down by hand.
