Oil Consumption

Would like to know just what is an acceptable rate of oil usage for a 7.3L ?
I was told that Diesel do consume oil to some extent, just wondered what that extent should be ?

I have a '00 PSD and haven't had to add oil yet before an oil change ( 5000 km ). I do get about a 1/4" drop on the stick but it always has stayed within working range.

Thanks for the info.
Mine is also a 2000 psd Excursion. I'm running an oil buy pass filtration system and Synthetic oil (20w50 diesel). I guess I'll just have to keep better records on how much it is consuming. It seems to be going through a quart every 2000 miles, which seems to be a little toooo much. I bought it used so maybe it's been that way from the purchase. Possibly it needs to go see the doctor....
Anyone else that wants to chime in...go for it !
P.S. 103,000 miles on the clock

Industry standards call for 1Qt./1500 Mi. to be acceptable. Any more than this is considered excessive.
