I had some spare time yesterday so I went up to the local lot and took a gander at some of the 05's. I found one identical to mine but not a Lariat for $45k. I told the salesman that was nuts and he said that they hold their value well. Keeping that in mind I went ahead and test drove it and told him to see what he could figure out on paper as far as payments. He comes back with a payment range of $600-$760 a month. He then says that my truck is only worth $7k and should hurry and get out of it before it goes down the drain. I asked him about the holding value part and he said he forgot to mention that they hold it well for 2-3 years. I guess this guy thinks that 161K on a truck is too many miles for someone but I feel better driving my 7.3 than I would with the 6.0. Mines 6 years old and still running strong. I wasn't all that impressed with the power the 6.0 had but I did fall in love with the built in boost gauge and the integratted brake controller. Thought I would share my story so if you live in Northern Kansas City don't go to any of the dealers around here.
I stopped buy the dealer the other night just to peek. Wow, nice trucks. All the goodies and comforts. They were offering $5-7,000 discounts.
I have people ask me to let them know if I ever want to sell my 96 F350 crew 4x4. You know, the seat is comfortable, it's paid for, and it runs. It's hard to spend the money. I keep thinking 'If it ain't broke don't fix it.'
The line between Want and Need is clear but Want keeps sticking its nose out. I think I'll stay with what I know.
I know what you mean about the seat. My a$$ groove is just the way I want it and it took such a long time to get it that way I would hate to have to break in another seat. There is a guy I work with that said he would buy mine when I decide to get rid of it. I'm like you. It's not broke so I'll drive it until it dies.
That guy must of thought you were a fish ready to reel in. I don't know of any 7.3 that's running that's only worth 7k. Here in Texas no salesman would try that......maybe because we are allowed to carry.

With the price of diesel where it is, they should be giving these beasts away. When I bought my '02 I could fill it up for $24.00 (Houston area), now it's $55.00.
psd rule #1: dealers will ALWAYS try to "steal" your 7.3, (because they know they can resell it).
psd rule #2: if a psd is still running good, feeling good, and looking good, you keep it..! Especially if it is PAID FOR...! Everyday that you drive it... it is giving you more value for the money you spend on it..

Hmmm let see the 7.3 is good for 300K miles easy, gets better fuel economy than the 6.0, tows better, and hold their value very well.
I believe I would look for an honest sales man (is that an oxymoron).

Actually the value should increase because they get much better fuel economy than gassers with the same capability. Look at the $ per mile not the $ per gallon.
