The internal slave cylinder has been a problem. When I’m ready to install the new engine, hopefully there is a better slave cylinder assembly available.

Yea that spread between 3rd & 4th in the NP435 is a killer when pulling a load like the 20' clubs enclosed trailer but what helps is I have an Advance Adapter Range Splitter so I can split 3rd to 4th, an all the other gears too, and it makes it better.
I went with the splitter because I did not have the time to go junk yard hunting with work hours, and to buy one online they wanted crazy money for them.

I always thought the splitter would've been cool with the NP-435, but the Bronco is just too short of a wheelbase for that.
With the ZF5, my rear driveshaft was only 32" length as it was.
It only added 7.5 inches to the drive train but yea then short wheel base truck can run into problems.
I have a short bed truck so not as bad as yours.
It is fun to watch people look for the 4x4 stuff because of the twin sticks inside, and not find anything
I have to tell them is an over drive unit but can split all the gears making the NP435 an 8 speed transmission
