this just an "IF" question for my buddy..he bought a 88 ford ranger 2WD for 200.00 for his son,we put a new head gasket on it & it runs GREAT..the tranny is leaking in the front of it like a busted water well..he has took the tranny out once already & had a guy do a few things to it..long story short..he messed it up..the question is...he has a 91 LTD sitting out here he WAS having me paint to sell with a 5.0 AOD tranny..is there any possible way that the AOD could be converted to his 4 Cyl ranger?..like maybe a bell housing change?..i dont even know if the AOD bellhousings bolt on or they are a part of the whole tranny..thanks for any info in advance...John

Anything could be done given enough time and money.
The AOD in the LTD does not have a removeable bellhousing. For a couple grand a REALLY good machine shop could make an adaptor.
You also would probably need to remove the floor pan in the Ranger to make clearance for the larger trans, so budget that in, too.
All in all it's probably cheaper to go to a Ford dealer and buy a new Ranger than to try and install that trans.
