My '68 ranger had wide side mirrors that stuck out about 1.5 ft. on each side. I had to pull them off to fit the truck in my driveway. Does anyone have info on the different types of mirrors the truck came with? I seen a dozen different types around town from the standard truck mirror to tiny circular mirrors mounted above the wing window. Any suggestions?
My 68 had the massive (braced on top and bottom) mirrors also. I have never seen any other style that look stock, later years had the smaller square (74-79). The smaller ones seem to look the best however I think that if you go with a little round mirror it would look too aftermarket and would not fit the style of the truck, unless you did some other modifications to put it in context.
the factory Ranger mirrors were the small rectangular chrome ones. I like them, but don't think they look right on a truck. you shouldn't have any problems with them as far as clearance.
Yeah, I'd like a bigger driveway, but there's only 7 feet between the wall of my house and the neighbor's chimney. I guess when it was built the only cars around were Model T's, so there was no problem.
There was no way to fold in the mirrors on the truck as there were three braces holding the thing on and no hinge.
The big west coast type were dealer installed options at the time. Later models (73 and up) came with low-mount big headed mirrors that mounted below the windows, but stuck out about the same distance. Either type required several holes be drilled in the door skin, and it you have had both types (as I have) you will have several holes to patch.
If you can live with the smaller stock ranger type mirror mentioned above you might make it through a 7 foot gate - but almost any after market big mirrror will stick out too far.
Have you considered parking on the street, or moving?
yeah, I do have several holes to patch, but that's easier than buying a new house! Even if I had a bigger driveway, those mirrors looked a little strange on the truck. I've removed the camper shell and I won't be towing much, so a regular mirror will do just fine. Parking on the street is ok, except when I need to change the oil and stuff.
On my 68 CS it has mirrors from what I believe a 72, the mirror is 6" x 10" in stainless, the arm also stainless sticks out from the top of the door 7" and mounts just below the window. Mirror on left side stick out 1" beyond the body trim, flush on the right. Mirrors have Ford stamped on the stainless back and the arm can swing forward and back. I believe the front bumper is wider than the body trim. Driveway between house and fence is 7' 10", drives on thru without folding. The mirrors are mounted low on the arm to see over the top, large to see behind, for looks hell it's a truck and matches great.
Little roundies for girly car/trucks. Not to offend.
Carl....=o&o>....
Guys I run the little round ones on my 66 because thats what came on it. I have marks on the side of the truck to prove that you can't see crap with them.
As bad as I hate cross breeding, I have thought about goat mirrors because of the round edge of my door. If you are using your truck as a truck ya gotta be able to see behind you.
