Noise Identification....7.3L PSD
I have a '99 F-250 7.3L PSD and would like some help on identifing a noise. Sometimes when I take off from the driveway, I will hear what sounds like two noises. One is the engine RPM's increasing as I take off (but not the hard take off using turbo) and then a second noise that seems associated with the transmission that almost sounds like a fan running very loudly that goes away shortly after getting started and shifting. The vehicle has no adverse effects from this and was just curious.

I'm no mechanic but are you starting off with the engine cold? If so the EBV will engage regardless of temperature apon start-up and will continue untill the computer reads an acceptable temperature. It will sound a little like a combination of hissing and buzzing. As for the other sound: Do you park on a hill. When parking on a hill all automatic transmissions are vulnerable to flowback. All this means is that transmission fluid flows out of the torque converter and back into the pan, this may also cause a clunck when starting of.Simple fix is an anti-flowback valve. Hope this helps.

If I understand your description, I've noticed the same type of noise on mine. I've concluded that it's the radiator fan, which may engage when you're stopped and the engine's warm. As you accelerate, the fan makes a lot of noise until the clutch cools off and disengages, and the noise sort of slowly dies away. Not sure if it's what you're hearing, but it's a possibility.
