Lockers req. equipment for off road

Go wheeling in the bad spots, you wont find anyone there without a locker or two. Get stuck, no one winches, you use a strap. In the last three years I have been wheeling in these places only seen a winch used once, and that was to haul a destroyed Jeep up a hill onto a flat bed. (A winch is real handy in these situations)!

Now my comments are assuming you have to make a choice. Both items are great, but without a doubt, if you don't have a locker you wont even be invited on some rides.

I have seen built lifted jeeps, just look stupid on easy stuff, he was still running open diffs, and it is no fun winching over every obstacle. I love pulling them out with my little locked Bronco II.

PS (edit) I agree with mustangs idea, too. Sounds like a plan.

Signed,
Locked and Lov-n it!

Yeah its what i'm doing, only the winch is going on the trailer for when i break parts and can't be pulled onto the trailer, welding the rear putting a LS up front. and once i get the money saved up detroits front and rear along with a regear (gear coming first).

you can find sterlings around here for about $300 thats ready to be bolted up. only thing you might have to do is get new brake shoes!

76fordtruck.... chill out! if he wants to keep the ifs/ttb under his thats his problem for later. yes it is more expensive to lift and can wear tires weird but thats not something you think about when you have a limited budegt. i know i saved up $1000 for my D60 that i bolted straight up. didn't have to 'convert' it or anything. although i did need new brake pads

Yeah 300 bucks at most, and if you go to your closest pick 'n pull you should be able to pick a good one up for at least half that.

This debate is a lot like the chicken or the egg and I think a lot of it depends on how and where you wheel. If you wheel in a group go with lockers because you have others to help you when you do get stuck. And yes you will get stuck with lockers. But if you wheel alone get a winch. There are also some obstacles that can't be done without a winch too.

That's easy though. The chicken came first as does the locker. You see, the chicken is an actuality just like the locker. The egg on the other hand is simply a possibility as is getting stuck and being able to extract yourself with a winch. Now, where did I put my Guinness . . .
