Had a change to try a couple things this weekend and check mileage.
Driving the truck around trying to get the break-in mileage done and the mileage was 15.4.
Got the Aero muffler/magnaflow exhaust put on last week. So this weekend I took a 45 minute trip, resetting the mileage as I left. The MPG indicator was reading 18.5 when I arrived at my destination.
When I went to leave I plugged in the Predator for the first time and loaded the 65HP program in, reset the mileage and reversed the trip, the MPG indicator was reading 21.5 when I returned home.
Yes the test could have been better, taking the same route before either of the mods and calculating the mpg would have better, but I think its a decent indicator of increases in fuel mileage.
where did you purchase the exhaust and how much also predator where and how much/ why not sc tuner, did you only check the mpg on the comp. or did you check it by hand.
Bought at a local performance shop for $245. Bought the Predator from this website, motorhaven.com.
The 3 tuners were pretty close, the things I gleaned from the debates were, the predator had better throttle response bottom to top, user updateable from the web, doesn't matter if dealer reflashes, good firm shifts but slight 'learning' curve for the tranny.
The SCMT good power, no learning curve, not quite as good in the low end, not updateable, if dealer reflashes you have to send your unit back, but good all around tunes.
The SCT - boatload of power, perhaps more than most people need and perhaps beyond the truck design, good tranny shifting, poor throttle respone until you get into the throttle heavily.
This isn't intended to stir up the debate again, this is what I took away from the reading I did, right wrong or indifferent.
I took the mpg off the comp, didn't figure accuracy mattered as much, the difference in numbers should be relative, if its calculating wrong it should calculate wrong across the board, so a +3 increase should be +3. Like I said not the ideal testing scenario but should be somewhat indicative.
does the local shop have a web site to purchase from, thats seems to be a very good price for that exhaust. my mpg started at around 14.5 but has since fallen to 12.5, 15000 mi. since new bought in dec build date is 10/04, truck is 2005 f250 4x4 4dr swb 3.73, when i tow mpg falls to 10.5
I don't think they do, that price was for the muffler only. If that beats what your looking at I'm sure we could probably work something out and get one sent to you.
I noticed that towing the boat, my mileage was 11.5 (no tune)
Bricot- Were you able to see if all calculations were on the same grade fuel? I got almost 3.3 mpg increase after the aeroturbine but am wondering if there is any correlation with fuel type. It does seem early for a switch to summer blend (got 18 inches of snow yesterday).
bricot so if i understand you correct you kept the factory pipe and just installed the muffler and you picked up approx. 3 mpg before tuner, the reason i asked about the comp. is because mine is usually of by a least 1 - 2mpg sometimes on interstate it is even furhter off than that. you do no have an air box, question because the diesel mech. at my dealer told me o install Volant cold air box, which i did, the only diff. i noticed was the revs and spool up.

Electod, Actually I had the magnaflow 3.5 down to 4" exhaust installed, instead of their muffler I had the Aero installed. I haven't messed with the intake side, so far I'm not convinced there is any reason to change out the stock Donaldson. Yep these were off the comp, I am assuming that even if its off it would be off the same amount for these changes so the difference should be close to accurate. I'll do the calculation at this fuel up and see how much the comp is off.
Bandit, fueled up at the same place and the muffler then tune measurements were made on the same tank of fuel.
These changes seem to have more of an affect on highway driving, I don't think the result is quite so pronounced with in city driving.
