Chop Top idea

i was just thinking up some ideas last night that i could do to my 1969 F-100. I got this crazy idea to make it even more cool.

I was thinking about chopping the top to make it a hard top convertible.

sounds crazy but i think it can be done. I am taking the gas tank out of the cab. So I could brace the cab with steal for support. I have claps to hold the front top and on the back. I have not figured out the doors yet but i am getting there.

What do yall think?

any ideas

I have not seen a 67-72 done this way yet, get me a pic of your truck and I'll do a photo chop and we'll see what it looks like.

I dont have a picture right now but could you just take any picture of a 67-72 model truck. Kind of like the crew cab in your gallery. Just not a crew cab just a regular cab. My brain is working and i am drawing it out in my head. I think it will look cool.

Just need an idea how to mount the hard to back on or should i use a rag top????

I don't think it would be that hard, just build some bulkheads on the joints, and put some kind of fastening device on it. use some hood fasteners on the lower part below the back glass and some camlock style clips on the top (inside behind the windscreen). is yours a long bed, or short?

wow, so I guess we will be seeing a convertable 68 f100 in the near future? May I suggest consulting a local custom body shop before you start cutting. they may be able to either give some really good pointers, or possibly persuade you into having it professionally done, so as to get it done right, the first time and you'll be happy with the results. in my experiences, you get what you pay for, and body work is the first thing someone will notice, so if it isn't done right, you will catch hell for it 'till you get it fixed.

good luck! _Ken

A guy who lives down the street from me cut the top on his '65 f100 and made it a removable hard top. You cant tell when the top is on. let me find out what he has to say about doing it, or if he has an email address i'll send it to you.

I have a couple of body shop guess that i am talking to now to figure something out.

Alll across the county.

I have got a general idea on what i want to do, and how i am going about doing it.

I have already done all the body work to the outside. I am just looking at the inside as far as bracing and things such as that. i have got the top figured out, i am still thinking about the doors.
