I've tried checking the other posts and the archives, but I'm still not sure of the answer. My mechanic said a 190 degree, and the radiator shop said a 180 degree. What temperature thermostat should i use for my 1990 F250hd 4x4 with a 460 engine? Auto trans, new 4:10 gears, 35" bfg's...
I`ll lean towards the 180... It will probally have to `see` 185-190 to open any way. Some engines in the late model catagory have to get the sensors up to 195 for the smog stuff to work.
Your safe either way really
Try looking here for some Temp Info I think this is the correct page If not just start at the home page

My 92 4.9 calls for a 195 thermostat. If i use a 180 it does not get hot enough for the sensor to work right , and has caused my check engine light to come on before .
